CARMEL
Outside of the one square mile city limits of Carmel-by-the-Sea, 'Greater Carmel' spans south to Big Sur and East until Carmel Valley.
The footprint is vast with neighborhoods and streets all maintaining their own character. Various gated communities including Quail Meadows, Tehama, and The Preserve along with Del Mesa & Hacienda Carmel (two premier senior housing communities) are also found within the Greater Carmel boundaries.
Real estate ranges from stunning oceanfront homes in the Carmel Highlands to multi-acre ranches. Weather also varies greatly as one moves from the ocean, inland and upward to the Santa Lucia Highlands. Generally, walkability is limited to neighborhood streets and the use of a car is needed for errands and grocery shopping.
Carmel School District services the area, with homes split between Tularcitos and River Elementary Schools, which all feed into Carmel Middle & Carmel High School public schools.
Many locals love the balance of living in Greater Carmel given the larger homesites while having close proximity to town while not being in the 'thick of it'.
